Product Role & System Fit

The HE693THM166F is a thermocouple input module purpose-built to integrate directly into GE Fanuc (or Horner) Series-90 automation systems. Essentially, this module’s job is to translate real-world temperature measurements from thermocouples into digital data the PLC can use. Rather than using external signal conditioners or transmitters, the HE693THM166F performs all the analog and digital processing right on the module board. This means fewer parts in the field, simpler wiring, and more reliable temperature readings.

In a typical control rack, the module sits in a standard I/O slot and addresses 16 separate thermocouple channels. It uses the backplane power (typically 5 V DC) for its operation, reporting values into the PLC’s %AI (analog input) table. In parallel, it raises a discrete bit (%I) if an open-circuit condition is detected on any channel. This tight integration makes it very efficient for temperature-monitoring tasks in systems that already use the Series-90 hardware architecture.

Because of its high channel density, the HE693THM166F is often used in applications where space is limited but temperature monitoring is critical. It can be deployed alongside other analog and digital I/O modules without disrupting the overall architecture. For legacy GE Fanuc installations, especially older Series-90-30 or Series-90-70 systems, it provides a practical way to add or replace thermocouple inputs without a full system overhaul.
