Product Role & System Fit

The IC693MDL940F does not make decisions — that’s the job of the PLC CPU. Instead, it plays an actuator-switching role by mapping PLC logic outputs to physical devices in the field. It plugs into an available slot in a Series 90-30 baseplate and communicates with the PLC processor over the backplane bus.

When the PLC program drives an output bit high, that command is sent over the backplane to the MDL940F’s corresponding relay output. The relay then energizes, completing the circuit to the field device (such as a motor starter coil or indicator lamp). Each of the 16 channels can be used independently, organized in four groups of four outputs for easier wiring and common power sharing.

This module’s design supports both 24 VDC logic circuits and AC power switching, allowing integration into mixed-voltage control panels without the need for external relays or contactors for small to medium loads. Its mechanical relay contacts help maintain full electrical isolation from the PLC logic electronics, reducing risk of ground loops and voltage interference.
