Product Introduction & Supply Chain Strategy

The Fireye 45UV5-1101 is a self-checking ultraviolet flame scanner engineered to detect UV emissions from fossil fuel flames in industrial boilers, process heaters, and incinerators. Featuring an integrated electromagnetic shutter that routinely blocks the optical path, the scanner allows the connected Fireye flame safeguard control to continuously verify the internal UV tube and electronics for proper operation.

Procuring this scanner as New Surplus ensures immediate availability when an existing unit suffers shutter failure or tube degradation. Because a failing flame scanner immediately trips boiler safety interlocks, maintaining genuine New Surplus stock eliminates long factory lead times and avoids risky refurbished alternatives. This strategy reduces Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) while guaranteeing uncompromised combustion safety and plant compliance.

Installation & Configuration Guide

1.Pre-Installation (Prep & Safety):LOTO, fuel shutoff, and site prep.

Isolate power to the burner control system and execute lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) protocols. Shut off fuel supply valves to the burner. Verify that the sight pipe is clear of slag, carbon buildup, or obstructions. Prepare high-temperature thread sealant and a 3/8″ NPT purge air line.

2.Removal:Removing the old unit.

Disconnect the field wiring cable from the scanner junction terminals or uncouple the quick-disconnect wiring harness. Loosen the housing retaining screws on the hinged mounting flange. Carefully pull the scanner housing off the 1″ BSP mounting flange, taking care not to impact or shatter the quartz lens assembly.

3.Installation (Clone & Seat):Mounting and wiring the new unit.

Inspect the quartz lens on the new 45UV5-1101 for clarity. Secure the hinged mounting flange onto the 1″ BSP sight pipe using thread sealant. Seat the scanner body onto the flange and tighten the captive retaining screws. Connect field wiring to the corresponding terminals: Black (Line), Red (Shutter), White (Common), and Green (Signal), ensuring the cable shield is grounded only at the control panel end.

4.Power-On & Testing:Air purge check and flame signal test.

Apply purge air (minimum 4 SCFM) to the 3/8″ inlet to maintain clean optics and cool internal components. Re-energize the Fireye flame safeguard control. During burner ignition, verify the flame signal voltage on the amplifier test jacks. Confirm that the internal shutter clicks rhythmically to complete its self-check cycle without triggering false flame failure alarms.

Firmware/Software Versions & Upgrade Notes

  • Control Compatibility: Designed for use with compatible self-checking Fireye controls, including Flame-Monitor, BurnerLogix, MicroM, and D-Series systems.
  • Frequency & Thread Specifications: The 45UV5-1101 variant operates specifically on 50 Hz systems with a 1″ BSP thread. Do not mix with model 45UV5-1000 (60 Hz / 1″ NPT) or 45UV5-1103 (50 Hz / 1″ NPT), as thread mismatch or improper shutter timing will cause system fault trips.
  • Power Waveform Requirement: The AC supply voltage powering the scanner must be a pure sine wave. Applying modified sine waves or square waves from low-cost UPS units will damage the internal power transformer and shutter circuit.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

This product is a Brand New Surplus unit. It is not used, not pulled from a decommissioned plant, and not refurbished. All modules undergo rigorous quality verification to ensure OEM-level reliability.

Why should I choose New Surplus over a refurbished flame scanner?

Flame scanners are primary safety devices responsible for preventing unburned fuel accumulation and potential boiler explosions. Refurbished scanners often contain worn electromagnetic shutters, aged UV UV-eye tubes, or fatigued gaskets that leak under pressure. A refurbished failure can cause nuisance boiler trips or, worse, a missed flame-fail condition. Buying New Surplus guarantees factory-fresh optical sensitivity, intact seals, and reliable self-checking operation.

How do I verify this unit is genuine and unused?

Our inbound quality control team verifies that all 45UV5-1101 units have pristine, unscratched quartz lenses, clean aluminum casting faces, zero soot residue inside the optical chamber, and un-marred wiring terminals. Units are shipped in protective packaging with factory verification tags.

What is the function of the internal shutter in the 45UV5-1101?

The electromagnetic shutter momentarily blocks the UV tube’s view of the flame several times per minute. If the UV tube or electronics fail in a false “flame detected” state (a common failure mode of UV tubes), the control system detects the error during the shutter-closed period and safely shuts down the burner.

Do I need continuous purge air for this scanner?

Yes. A continuous supply of clean, dry purge air (minimum 4 SCFM @ 4″ W.C. above furnace pressure) is required at the 3/8″ connection. Purge air cools the scanner electronics below the 200°F (93°C) maximum limit and prevents soot or dust from settling on the quartz lens.

What coverage is provided with this Fireye scanner?

We support this New Surplus Fireye 45UV5-1101 with a full 1-year replacement warranty. If any operational or electrical defect occurs under standard operating conditions within 12 months, we will immediately replace the scanner from our buffer stock.
