Product Introduction & Supply Chain Strategy

The GE Fanuc IC693MDL940 is a 16-point electro-mechanical relay output module designed for Series 90-30 PLCs. Featuring 16 Normally Open (Form A) dry contacts rated up to 2.0 A per point, it provides versatile switching for mixed AC and DC field loads, including motor starter coils, indicator lights, interlock circuits, and control valves.

Securing the IC693MDL940 as New Surplus is a high-value supply chain strategy for facilities maintaining active Series 90-30 installations. Sourcing factory-fresh, uninstalled original inventory eliminates the severe risks of contact pitting, contact welding, and mechanical spring fatigue common in second-hand relay cards, preserving plant reliability without requiring system-wide control retrofits.

Installation & Configuration Guide

Stage 1: Pre-Installation (Prep & Safety)

  1. Execute Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures on the main PLC rack power supply and all external AC/DC field load power sources.
  2. Put on an anti-static grounded wrist strap to protect backplane interface logic from ESD damage.
  3. Verify that load currents do not exceed 2.0 A per point or 4.0 A per common group prior to landing field wires.

Stage 2: Removal

  1. De-energize the baseplate rack power supply.
  2. Open the front door flap, loosen the top and bottom terminal assembly screws, and swing the hinged 20-terminal connector block away from the module.
  3. Squeeze the release levers at the top and bottom of the module card and slide it straight forward out of the baseplate slot.

Stage 3: Installation (Seat & Wire)

  1. Align the rear card edge of the replacement IC693MDL940 with the guide rails of any available I/O slot in a Series 90-30 baseplate.
  2. Press firmly on the top and bottom face of the module until both retaining latches click locked.
  3. Attach the pre-wired 20-terminal block onto the front connector housing and tighten the top/bottom securing screws.

Stage 4: Power-On & Testing

  1. Reapply power to the PLC rack and field load circuits.
  2. Check that the “MODULE OK” status LED lights solid green.
  3. Toggle output bits via Proficy Machine Edition or cycle system logic to verify contact closure and check LED arrays (A1–A8 and B1–B8).

Firmware/Software Versions & Upgrade Notes

  • Software Configuration: Configured using Proficy Machine Edition (PME), VersaPro, or Logicmaster 90. Allocate 16 bits in the %Q discrete output memory table for the designated slot position.
  • Contact Protection: For inductive field loads (solenoid coils, contactors), install RC snubbers across AC loads or flyback diodes across DC loads to prevent contact arcing and extend relay contact life.
  • Slot Compatibility: Can be installed in any available I/O slot of an IC693 Main, Expansion, or Remote baseplate.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is this IC693MDL940 output module brand new or pulled from a used system?

This product is a Brand New Surplus unit. It is not used, not pulled from a decommissioned plant, and not refurbished. All modules undergo complete quality testing to verify original OEM performance.

Why is buying New Surplus critical for relay output cards like the IC693MDL940?

Electro-mechanical relays are mechanical switching devices with finite cycle lives. Used or refurbished cards often have pitted contacts, carbon buildup, or weakened return springs that lead to intermittent contact resistance or stuck-on conditions. Buying New Surplus ensures 100% mechanical and electrical contact life.

What quality control steps are completed prior to shipment?

Every undergoes strict QC validation, including serial number tracking, physical backplane connector inspection, terminal screw torque checks, and live test rack actuation testing to confirm relay coil energization and contact continuity.

Can the mix AC and DC voltages on the same module?

Yes. Because the module is arranged into 4 isolated common groups of 4 points each, you can switch different voltage levels or mix AC and DC power sources across separate common groups on the same module.

Do I need to remove field wiring when replacing an existing ?

No. The module uses a removable 20-terminal block. You can unbolt the wired terminal assembly from the old module and attach it directly to the replacement unit without disturbing individual field wires.

What warranty coverage is included with this New Surplus output card?

This module includes a full 1-year functional warranty. If any operational defect or hardware failure occurs during normal use within 12 months, we will immediately supply a replacement unit from our active buffer inventory.
