4. Product Introduction
The GE Fanuc / Emerson IC694MDL350 is a 16-point isolated AC output module for the PACSystems RX3i platform. Each of the 16 points is individually isolated and switches 120/240 VAC loads over a 74–265 VAC range. The module is rated 2 A per point at 30 °C (derated to 1 A at 60 °C) with a total module limit of 5 A at 30 °C.
High noise immunity reduces the need for external snubbers on most loads. A DIP switch on the back of the module selects Hold Last State or Force Off behavior on loss of communication. Terminal-block presence is reported as a diagnostic to the RX3i CPU. The module installs in any RX3i I/O slot but requires CPU firmware 3.50 or newer and cannot be used with Series 90-30 CPUs.

5. Troubleshooting Quick Reference
| Symptom | Possible Cause | Relevance to this Part | Quick Check Method | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| No LEDs, outputs dead | Backplane power or module seating | ❌ Low | Measure +5 V on backplane; reseat module | Verify power supply and contact before replacing |
| Individual output fails to energize load | Open field wiring, external fuse, or failed channel | ✅ High | Force output ON and measure voltage at terminal; check load continuity | Inspect wiring and external fuse; force adjacent channel |
| TB LED red / terminal-block diagnostic | Terminal block missing or not fully seated | ✅ High | Confirm correct TB is fully latched | Install and lock the proper IC694 terminal block |
| Output stays ON when commanded OFF | Shorted triac or wiring short | ✅ High | Force OFF and measure residual voltage/current | Isolate load; replace module if channel remains shorted |
| Overheating or current limit trips | Exceeding 2 A/point or 5 A/module rating | ✅ Medium | Measure actual load current under worst-case conditions | Derate for temperature; add external fusing |
| Module not recognized by CPU | Firmware too old or wrong platform | ✅ High | Verify RX3i CPU firmware ≥ 3.50 | Upgrade CPU firmware; do not install in 90-30 rack |
If outputs continue to misbehave after these checks, photograph the LED faceplate, terminal block, and capture the RX3i fault table before contacting technical support.
6. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Is the IC694MDL350 compatible with Series 90-30? A: No. It is an RX3i-only module and requires an RX3i CPU with firmware 3.50 or later. It will not operate in a Series 90-30 system.
Q: Are the outputs individually isolated? A: Yes. Each of the 16 points is galvanically isolated from the others and from the logic side. This allows different phases or grounds on individual channels.
Q: What is the maximum current I can draw? A: 2 A continuous per point at 30 °C (1 A at 60 °C) and 5 A total per module at 30 °C (4 A at 60 °C). Use external fusing sized for the load.
Q: Does the module have internal fuses? A: No. Install appropriate external fuses for short-circuit protection of both the module and the field devices.
Q: What terminal blocks are required? A: Compatible RX3i terminal blocks are IC694TBB032, IC694TBS032, IC694TBB132, or IC694TBS132 (box-style or spring-style, standard or extended). They are ordered separately.
Q: Can I hot-swap this module? A: RX3i supports hot-swap under the proper conditions, but field power should still be removed when practical. Always follow Emerson hot-swap guidelines for high-voltage AC modules.
Q: Why is New Surplus priced lower than original list? A: These are unused original modules from OEM or distributor surplus inventory. Each unit is visually inspected, powered on a genuine RX3i rack, and verified for correct LED and output response before shipment. Test documentation is available on request.
