Product Introduction & Supply Chain Strategy

The KEYENCE LR-W500C is a high-performance, full-spectrum photoelectric sensor engineered for difficult industrial verification tasks—including subtle color differentiation, registration mark detection, surface luster changes, and component presence/absence checks. Utilizing a high-output white LED and custom spectrum-analyzing CMOS array, it detects minute target changes regardless of target angle, gloss, or surface texture.

Because automated packaging lines, bottling operations, and automotive assembly cells rely on the LR-W500C to prevent quality defects, maintaining authentic New Surplus LR-W500C sensors in your maintenance store is a vital operational safeguard. Replacing a failed sensor with an unverified or second-hand unit introduces severe risks—such as degraded LED emission intensity, scratched optical lenses, or worn internal seals that allow moisture ingress during washdowns. Sourcing factory-sealed New Surplus units guarantees factory-grade optical alignment, full sensing range stability, and immediate drop-in replacement without production delays.

Installation & Configuration Guide

Electrical Overcurrent & Optical Alignment Warning

Ensure main supply power (10 to 30 V DC) is isolated using strict Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures before connecting or disconnecting the M12 cable harness. Never look directly into the high-intensity optical lens at close range during power-on setup.

1.Pre-Installation & Mounting Setup:5 mins.

Perform LOTO on the 24 V DC power supply feed. Mount the LR-W500C onto a rigid metal bracket using M3 screws. Maintain a sensing distance between 30 mm and 500 mm perpendicular to the target surface.

2.M12 Cable Termination & Wiring:5 mins.

Connect an IP67-rated 4-pin M12 female cable assembly. Wire Brown to +24 V DC, Blue to 0 V DC, Black to Control Output (NPN/PNP), and White to External Input / Calibrate according to your PLC I/O wiring scheme.

3.One-Touch Calibration (SET Button):5 mins.

Apply 24 V DC power. Position the baseline target in front of the white light spot and press the “SET” button once. Move the background/contrasting target into view and press “SET” a second time to store the automatic sensitivity threshold.

4.Output Mode & Response Tuning:5 mins.

Verify sensor output behavior (Light-ON vs. Dark-ON) on the digital display. Adjust response speed (e.g., 200 µs for high-speed indexing or 10 ms for high-precision color discrimination) to match process line velocity.

Verification: The digital display must show a clear numerical margin between target presence and background, and the orange output LED indicator must trigger cleanly as targets pass the optical sensing spot.

Firmware/Software Versions & Upgrade Notes

  • Standalone Sensor Operation: The LR-W500C features onboard digital signal processing and requires no external software driver or PC connection.
  • Auto-Tune Thresholding: All calibration parameters (Master Target profiles, response timing, NPN/PNP output selection) are stored in internal non-volatile EEPROM and retained through power cycles.
  • M12 Connector Pinout Standard:
    • Pin 1 (Brown): +10 to 30 V DC
    • Pin 2 (White): External Input (Tuning / Shift Input)
    • Pin 3 (Blue): 0 V DC
    • Pin 4 (Black): Control Output (NPN / PNP selectable)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is this KEYENCE LR-W500C sensor genuine new stock or refurbished?

This sensor is Brand New Surplus. It is not a pulled unit, second-hand sensor, or refurbished item. It features pristine optical lenses, factory-original housing seals, and un-degraded white LED emitters.

Why should our plant avoid buying refurbished or used optical sensors?

Refurbished photoelectric sensors pulled from active production lines often suffer from degraded LED light emission, micro-scratches on optics, and weakened M12 connector seals. In high-speed packaging or sorting applications, reduced optical sensitivity causes false triggers, missed registration marks, and high reject rates.

What is the difference between the LR-W500C and the LR-W500?

The LR- features an integrated M12 4-pin quick-disconnect connector, whereas the standard LR-W500 comes with a 2-meter un-terminated flying lead cable.

Can the LR-W500C detect targets on shiny or metallic surfaces?

Yes. The sensor’s full-spectrum analysis and automatic luster-cancellation algorithms allow it to differentiate colors and surface finishes accurately, even on glossy films, polished metals, and transparent foils.

What warranty is provided with this New Surplus sensor?

Every New Surplus KEYENCE LR-W500C sensor comes backed by a standard 12-Month Replacement Warranty. Prior to dispatch, each unit passes strict visual and electrical quality checks, including power-on display verification and output switching checks.
