Product Introduction & Supply Chain Strategy

The SCXI-1125 conditions and isolates up to 8 channels of thermocouple, millivolt, volt, or current signals, multiplexing them into a single channel of a controlling DAQ device to expand system channel count. Its 300 Vrms working isolation and 12 programmable gain settings make it a standard fit for mixed-signal test benches and multi-sensor monitoring racks built on the SCXI platform.

With NI having announced End of Life on this module, existing SCXI-based test systems face a real stock-out risk on the exact signal conditioning channel their calibration and wiring were built around. Securing New Surplus SCXI-1125 units now avoids a full re-architecture of the measurement chain later, at a fraction of the TCO a forced platform migration would carry.

Installation & Configuration Guide

Stage 1: Pre-Installation (Prep & Safety)
Power down the SCXI chassis completely before opening it. Put on a grounded ESD wrist strap. Photograph the existing module’s slot position, terminal block wiring, and any adjacent module cabling before disconnecting anything.

Stage 2: Removal
Disconnect the terminal block from the front of the module, then release the module’s retaining screws and slide it straight out of the chassis slot, avoiding any twisting motion that could stress the backplane connector.

Stage 3: Installation (Clone & Seat)
Slide the replacement SCXI-1125 into the same chassis slot, seating it fully against the backplane connector before securing the retaining screws. Reattach the terminal block and reconnect wiring exactly as photographed.

Stage 4: Power-On & Testing
Power up the chassis and confirm the module enumerates correctly in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX). Run the offset-nulling calibration routine before taking measurements, and verify a known reference signal on at least one channel reads correctly before returning the system to service.

Firmware/Software Versions & Upgrade Notes

The SCXI-1125 requires NI-DAQmx 9.0 or later to configure and program. Calibration constants are stored in an onboard EEPROM — a factory-set section that cannot be altered, and a user-accessible section for offset/gain corrections applied by the driver software.

If your host system runs an older NI-DAQmx version than 9.0, upgrade the driver before installing the replacement module rather than assuming default configuration will suffice. Do not attempt to transfer calibration constants between units — each module’s EEPROM holds its own factory and user calibration data, so the replacement module must be run through its own calibration routine after installation rather than inheriting settings from the outgoing unit.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is this a new unit, or is it refurbished?
It’s New Surplus — original OEM manufacture, never installed or run in a live SCXI chassis. It’s not a pulled, repaired, or cosmetically restored unit.

Why is this discontinued, and what does that mean for support?
NI has announced End of Life status on the SCXI-1125 as part of its broader shift away from the SCXI signal conditioning platform. NI’s own repair and support windows for EOL hardware are time-limited, which is why securing a last-time-buy spare now is cheaper than an emergency search once remaining stock clears.

Can I hot-swap this module while the chassis is powered?
No. Always power down the SCXI chassis fully before removing or installing a signal conditioning module.

Will I need to recalibrate after installing the replacement module?
Yes. Each SCXI-1125 has its own factory and user calibration constants stored in its onboard EEPROM. Run the offset-nulling calibration routine after installation rather than assuming the replacement matches the outgoing unit’s calibration.

What’s the warranty on a New Surplus unit?
We back New Surplus units with a 1-2 year warranty — a fraction of the cost of an emergency platform migration and well short of the risk profile on an unverified used module with no warranty.

How do I confirm this unit is genuine NI and not counterfeit?
Every unit ships with an OEM packing slip, a verifiable NI part number/serial number, and our QC test report confirming channel isolation and gain accuracy checks passed.
